14.Mounting the satellite heads

Mounting the satellite heads
Head boss
The satellite heads are attached to the shafts by means of the head boss with four loc-
ating dowel pins and a centre bolt.

MOUNTING THE SATELLITE
HEADS
1. Fit the V60 dust seal ring on the three
head bosses.
2. Stretch on one side of the seal and work
your way around, ensuring the skirt of
the seal is facing away from the head
boss.
3. Fit the head bosses on the satellite
shafts, aligning the keyways.
4. Knock the head bosses down on the
shafts using a soft mallet.
5. Apply a layer of retainer compound
around the keys and insert them in their
seats.
6. Knock the keys fully down using a steel
bar and a hammer.
7. Each key should rest just below the head
boss surface.
8. Align and fit on the locating holes of
the head to the head boss dowel pins.
9. Fit in the centre M16 bolt with spring
washer in the satellite head centre.
10. Tighten the bolt with a 24mm socket.
Note:
• Ensure that the bottom plate is clear
of any tools and run the three satellites
looking for misalignment as a result of
wear, both vertically and horizontally.
• If excess play or misalignment ex-
ists, then replace all three satellites
(it is most uncommon that one
satellite will be replaced without re-
placing the other two).
• Allow adequate curing time before re-
moving machine from service rack.
