Hot Engine Parts and Hot
WARNING
Coolant
The engine and adjacent components, the exhaust
system and the coolant become very hot when the
engine is running.
The coolant reservoir is pressurized. The hot coolant
may suddenly escape if the coolant reservoir is not
opened carefully.
e Take care when working near hot vehicle parts,
particularly the engine and exhaust system.
e Only top up coolant when the engine is stopped
and the ignition is switched off.
e Do not open the cap of the coolant reservoir when
the engine is hot. Wait until the coolant tempera-
ture gauge displays a temperature below 140 °F
(60 °C).
f Please see chapter „B - Coolant temperature" on
page 240.
Hot Exhaust System
CAUTION
The exhaust system is very hot when the engine is
running and for a while after the engine has been
stopped. Risk of burns and fire!
e Do not park your vehicle in places where combus-
tible materials, such as dry grass or leaves, can
come into contact with the hot exhaust system.
e To prevent injury, make a point of noting where
your vehicle's exhaust pipe is, avoid placing your
legs near the exhaust pipe, and closely supervise
children around the vehicle during time when the
exhaust pipe could be hot. A hot exhaust pipe can
cause serious burns.
b Vehicle is level.
b Engine cold and coolant temperature gauge
below 140 °F (60 °C).
b The symbol
or
with a message
requesting that the coolant be topped up appears
in the multifunction display.
b If the symbol
or
is not displayed
with a message requesting that the coolant be
topped up, only top up if no coolant is visible at
the base of the standpipe. The MAX marking only
applies during refilling itself as the level in the
standpipe drops after the engine is first started.
1. Open the rear luggage compartment.
2. 718 Cayman GT4: Turn cap counterclockwise
and remove (Fig. 60).
3. Carefully screw off the coolant reservoir cap and
allow any excess pressure to escape.
4. Unscrew the cap completely.
5. Read the coolant level. The coolant level must be
below the MAX marking. (no coolant level visible
at base of standpipe).
6. If necessary, top up the coolant to the MAX
marking, do not fill above the MAX marking. Only
use a mixture consisting of equal parts of freeze
protection agent and distilled water.
The MAX marking only applies during refilling
itself as the level in the standpipe drops after the
engine is first started.
7. Screw the cap on the coolant reservoir closed
until it is felt to reach the end stop.
8. 718 Cayman GT4: Fit cap and turn clockwise
(Fig. 60).
9. Have the cooling system checked.
Visit an authorized Porsche dealer, as they have
trained technicians and the necessary parts and
tools.
Information
If pure water has been used to refill the reservoir in an
emergency, the mix ratio must be corrected.
Significant coolant loss indicates leaks the coolant
system.
e Find the cause and have it repaired immediately.
Visit an authorized Porsche dealer, as they have
