The /example directory contains example programs showing you how to use the NI-VXI
software.

Installing the Software

This section describes how to install the NI-VXI software.

Step 1. Set Up a Working Directory

1. Log on as root.
2. To create a working directory (for example, /usr/nivxi), change to the parent directory,
/usr.
cd /usr
3. Copy the files from the NI-VXI distribution diskette to this directory using the tar
command.
For a 3.5 in. floppy diskette (in drive 0):
tar xvfo /dev/rdsk/f0q18dt
For a 5.25 in. floppy diskette (in drive 0):
tar xvfo /dev/rdsk/f0q15dt
This will create the nivxi directory in the current working directory (/usr).

Step 2. Install the Driver into the System

Follow these steps to install the NI-VXI driver into the system.
1. Run the VXI installation shell script Installvxi in your working directory (nivxi).
Follow the instructions in the shell script. If you need to change any of the default
installation settings, enter the new values when prompted to do so; otherwise, press the
<RETURN> key to select the default settings.
./Installvxi
2. If the installation completes successfully, reboot the system to use the new kernel with the
NI-VXI driver.
