be done by the owner or operator, while others should be performed by an authorized Mercury Diesel repair facility. Before
attempting maintenance or repair procedures not covered in this manual, we recommended that you purchase the appropriate

NOTE: Maintenance points are color coded for ease of identification. See the decal on engine for identification.
Blue—Coolant

Do‑It‑Yourself Maintenance Suggestions
Mercury power packages are highly technical, complex pieces of machinery. Only qualified personnel using the proper tools
should attempt major repair.
Your safety is our concern. Always read and understand the Cautions, Warnings, Important Notices, and Notes.
Do not attempt repairs unless specifically trained in that procedure.
Reference the correct service manual for the product. Do not attempt repairs unless qualified.
Special tools and equipment are required to perform certain repairs. Failure to use the correct special tools and equipment
can result in severe damage to the product.
Always have a Mercury Diesel authorized repair facility service your power package and do periodic maintenance
inspections to help provide safe and trouble‑free boating.

Inspection

Inspect your power package often and at regular intervals to help maintain its top operating performance and to correct
potential problems before they occur. The entire power package should be checked carefully, including all accessible engine
parts.
1.
Check for loose, damaged, or missing parts, hoses, and clamps. Tighten or replace as necessary.
2.
Check electrical connections and leads for damage or corrosion.
3.
Remove and inspect the propeller. If the propeller is badly nicked, bent, or cracked, contact your Mercury Diesel authorized
repair facility.
4.
Repair nicks and corrosion damage on power package exterior finish. Contact your Mercury Diesel authorized repair
facility.
NOTE: A small panel in the engine cover allows access to the engine circuit breakers, the engine oil fill cap, and the engine oil
dipstick without removing the entire engine cover.
It may be necessary to remove the engine cover during some maintenance inspections and procedures. To remove the engine
