For plastic seawater strainers:
a.
Remove the cover.

Remove the strainer.
c.
Clean any debris from the strainer housing.
d.
Flush both the strainer and housing with clean water.

Inspect the cover gasket and replace if damaged.

Seawater leaking from the seawater strainer could cause excess water in the bilge, damaging the engine or causing the boat
to sink. Do not overtighten the cover screws, or the cover may warp and introduce seawater into the bilge.
4.
For metal seawater strainers:
a.
Install the strainer, drain plug, and sealing washer.
b.
Install the strainer basket.
c.
Assemble the cover.
