    2.2 DESCRIPTION The ARMA-C250-CRM includes two 250 W solid state power amplifiers (SSPA) and a waveguide switching unit for 1:1 redundant operation. Each SSPA incorporates a DC main power supply and a forced air cooling system. Each SSPA features an RS-485 interface that provides full remote monitor and control of selected functions.

    ARMA-C250-CRM 3. INSTALLATION 3.1 INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS 1. It is recommended that the redundant system should be installed in a rack cabinet. 2. Regardless of the installation position, ensure that there is a clearance of at least 12 inches (30 cm) between the air intakes (front of the unit), air exhaust (back of the unit) and any surface which may obstruct air flow.

    ARMA-C250-CRM 4. OPERATION 4.1 INTRODUCTION The amplifier may be operated via the RS-485 serial interface, discrete interface or the front panel controls and display. Each method provides full access to the unit’s functions including system monitoring of all key operating parameters, control of output attenuation and amplifier’s operational status.

    ARMA-C250-CRM 4.3 REMOTE INTERFACE 4.3.1 S OFTWARE NSTALLATION AND  The communications protocol for the serial interface is RS-485. To use the standard IBM compatible personal computer (running DOS 3.1 or higher) with an RS-232 serial port, you must use the RS-485/RS-232 adapter, to be provided as an option. In fact the software can be used to control up to 16 different SSPAs from a single computer.

    ARMA-C250-CRM 4.3.2 U RS-485 S SING THE ERIAL NTERFACE The RS-485 serial interface provides a powerful means of monitoring and controlling key amplifier parameters. A communications program is provided with the unit that will allow full access to all amplifier functions. Note that an RS-232/RS-485 adapter is required to use the program on a PC serial port.

    ARMA-C250-CRM 4.4 DISCRETE INTERFACE The discrete interface provides all the necessary functions to monitor and control the amplifier. The unit provides open collectors for continuos monitoring alarms, faults, and amplifier status, amplifier enable/disable switching. Figure 11 at page 35 provides the detailed circuit information required for utilizing the above features.

CONFIGURATION AND SET-UP 5.1 SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION Insert the adapter in the desired serial port of the computer and connect the cable leading to the amplifier to the adapter. 1. The program ADV.EXE is located on the diskette enclosed with this amplifier. To use the software, first copy ADV.EXE to your hard disk.

The coupling loss normally associated with RF sample, must be added to the power level measured at the sample port in order to obtain the proper value for input or output power level.

Two LED indicators on the amplifier identify ALARM or FAULT conditions respectively. MAINTENANCE 7.1 CLEANING In order to ensure adequate cooling of the amplifier, it is recommended to inspect the unit weekly to verify that the air intake and exhaust are free of any obstruction. Clean the air intake filter with a soft bristle as nessesary. Filter can be cleaned while the unit is in service (power on).
