9-19-1. Operation
Engine power is transmitted to the primary
gear on the clutch housing by the primary
pinion.
When the clutch is engaged, the po­
wer is transmitted to the countershaft.

9-19-2. Description of top gear
The top gear has a mechanism for smooth
gear shifting.
The top gear slides on the drive
shaft when shifting from neutral to low, from
low to second or from second to low.

the sliding action of the gear becomes stiff,
so 18 steel ba lis are provided beneath the top
gear in the spline connection so that the top
gear moves I ightly and gears can be shifted
smoothly under all conditions.
