ARCvault Series
SCSI/FC Drive Cover Spare
Remove & Replace Instructions
Introduction
This document describes how to remove and replace a
drive cover assembly on any Overland Storage ARCvault
unit. There are three different types of drive covers:
• 2-port cover for a single SCSI drive in the drive bay
• 4-port cover for dual SCSI drives in the drive bay
• Fibre Channel (FC) cover for a FC drive
Each drive cover comes complete with a new fan assembly.
Early versions of the ARCvault 12 and 24 featured a SCSI
drive cover
(Figure
1) with only a single bus. The newer
drive covers now feature independent buses.

NOTE:
If replacing an older single bus drive cover on an
ARCvault 24 with a newer 4-port SCSI drive cover and you want
to retain the daisy-chain configuration for your network, an
optional jumper cable is needed (available separately).
Unpacking
Carefully unpack and verify that you have all the parts:
• Spare drive cover assembly (verify you have the
correct one for your system's configuration)
• These remove & replace instructions
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock or
damage to equipment, disconnect the power by
unplugging the power cord.
The design of the drive cover makes it easy to change it out
while the ARCvault unit is still mounted in a rack
(Figure
2).
