SAS Tape Drive
Remove & Replace Instructions
This document describes how to remove and replace a SAS
Tape Drive assembly in an ARCvault loader or library.

Unpacking

Carefully unpack and verify that you have all the parts:
• SAS Tape Drive assembly (half-height)
• Four M4x6mm screws
• These remove & replace instructions
1. At the Operator Control Panel (OCP), press Power >
Power Off Library > OK (at power down message).
2. After the unit has shut down, remove the power cord.

4. Loosen the two thumbscrews on the appropriate
drive cover.
For an ARCvault 48, Drives 1 and 2 are behind the
Primary (upper) drive cover; Drives 3 and 4 (if
installed) are behind the Secondary (lower) drive cover.

Electrostatic Discharge Information
A discharge of static electricity can damage micro-circuitry
or static-sensitive devices. To help prevent Electrostatic
Discharge (ESD), observe standard ESD precautions.
3. At the rear, remove the SAS cable from the Primary
drive cover
(Figure
1).

5. Remove the drive cover as follows:
a. Gently pull the drive cover out and hold it about
2 inches (5cm) below the drive bay
b. Unplug the fan wiring from the fan connector.
c. Using the guide handles, pull the assembly out
about 1 inch (2.5cm) and unplug the SAS cables
from the drives.
NOTE: If more than one drive is installed, it is
recommended that the SAS cables be numbered starting
with marking the top drive cable as "1."
d. For and ARCvault 48 with drives in the lower drive
bay, unplug those SAS cables from the drive cover.
e. Set the drive cover aside.
6. Unplug the power and serial cables and position
them off to the right

7. Using the guide grips, slide the drive assembly out.
