THE VERMONT CASTINGS
TO BE USED IN TWO DIFFERENT METHODS DEPENDING ON YOUR
DESIRED OUTCOME AND FUEL CHOICE.
BEFORE USING, MAKE SURE THE FIRE PIT IS A SAFE DISTANCE
FROM ALL COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL. USING A RAKE, LEVEL
THE AREA IF NECESSARY AND REMOVE ANY DRY GRASS OR
OVERHANGING BRANCHES.
METHOD 1
For a SMOKELESS FIRE, please choose a fuel; either premium
hardwood pellets, or hardwood firewood, and follow these steps:
1 Carefully centre and lower the Burner Bowl (A) on to the top of
the Ash Pan (B) until it lays in place.
2 Carefully centre and lower the Steel Ring (F) in to the top of
the Burner Bowl (A) until it lays in place.
3 Choose your fuel source: If you are using Premium Hardwood
Pellets go to 3A, if you are using Hardwood Firewood go to 3B.
3A
Premium Hardwood Pellets
1. Pour premium hardwood pellets into the Burner Bowl (A) up to the
bottom of the "FILL LINE" indicator approximately 2" (5 cm) up from
the perforated floor. Do not overfill.
2. Ensure that the pellets are evenly distributed around the bottom
of the Burner Bowl. No pellets should be above the "FILL LINE"
indicator.
3. Using a torch, carefully ignite the pellets in several locations
D D
around an evenly spaced circular pattern. For faster lighting results
use a non-toxic fire starter, like wax infused tinder, also in an evenly
spaced circular pattern.
G G
4. To extend the duration of the fire, wearing heat resistant gloves,
use a long handled metal scoop to evenly scatter pellets around
the Burner Bowl on top of the already burning pellets. Placing
too many pellets in one place could smother the fire and create
excessive amounts of smoke. Adding pellets once the flames have
extinguished could also create excessive smoke until the pellets
ignite.
5. To cook on the fire pit while using pellet fuel, wait for the flames to
die down. Wearing heat resistant gloves, use the Poker/Lifter (G) to
insert the Grill Grate (D) or Grill Griddle (E) into the Steel Ring (F).
CAUTION: ONLY USE PREMIUM BBQ WOOD PELLETS TO COOK WITH.
DO NOT USE HEATING PELLETS.
USER CAN EXPECT FLAMES TO REACH OVER 3' (1 M) ABOVE THE TOP
OF THE FIRE PIT WHEN USING PELLET FUEL.
3B
Hardwood Firewood
1. Place tinder, and kindling and smaller wood chunks in the centre of
the burner bowl (A). Do not fill the burner bowl with wood pieces that
extend above the unique hole pattern found below the steel ring.
This could create excessive smoke, and incomplete burn qualities.
2. Using a torch, carefully light the fire as you would any camp fire.
For faster lighting results use a non-toxic fire starter, like wax infused
tinder.
3. To extend the duration of the fire, wearing heat resistant gloves,
place hardwood firewood into the burner bowl on top of the already
burning wood. Placing too much hardwood into the burner bowl
could smother the fire and create excessive amounts of smoke until
ignited. Adding hardwood once the flames have extinguished could
also create excessive amounts of smoke.
4. To prevent embers from escaping the burner bowl, wearing heat
resistant gloves, use Poker/Lifter (G) to lift the Ember Screen (C)
and place on the Steel Ring (F) as shown.
5. To cook on the fire pit while using Hardwood Firewood fuel, wait
for the flames to die down. Wearing heat resistant gloves, use the
Poker/Lifter (G) to insert the Grill Grate (D) or Grill Griddle (E) into
the Steel Ring (F).
CAUTION: DO NOT COOK USING SOFTWOOD. EMBER SCREEN IS
ONLY USED WHEN BURNING FIREWOOD.
NOTE: WHEN FINISHED WITH YOUR FIRE, JUST LET THE FLAMES BURN
OUT. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FIRE PIT UNATTENDED UNTIL THE FIRE PIT
HAS SUFFICIENTLY COOLED.
