System-board error LEDs

The following illustration shows the location of the LEDs on the system board. You
might need to refer to this illustration when solving problems with the computer.

Each error LED turns on to indicate a problem with a specific component. After a
problem is corrected its LED will not turn on the next time the computer is restarted;
if the problem remains the LED will turn on again. For information on how to correct
problems indicated by the error LEDs, see the "Diagnostic error messages" on page
18 and the"Error symptom charts."

Error symptom charts

You can use the error symptom charts to find solutions to problems that have
definite symptoms; see "Error symptoms" on page 89.
Important: If diagnostic error messages are displayed that are not listed in the error
symptom charts, make sure that your system has the latest levels of BIOS code
installed.

Software error messages

These messages appear if a problem or conflict is detected by the application
program, the operating system, or both. Error messages for operating system and
other software problems are typically text messages, but they also can be numeric
codes. For information about these software error messages, see the information
supplied with the operating system and application program.
To determine if problems are caused by the software, verify that:
v The computer has the minimum memory requirements needed to use the
v The software is designed to operate on your computer.
v Other software works on your computer.
v The software that you are using works on another computer.
