4.4.3 Process interface without springs for long path application
To ensure an alignment stability the process interfaces of the SITRANS SL -R03 option (long path O
application) are modified as follows:
Spring screws are replaced by standard screws and washers.
Alignment kit
To enable the alignment of the process interfaces for the -R03 option a different light source is provided. This light
source has a removable cap which allows two different aperture diameters in front of the lamp. In case of a long path
length, the cap head should be removed to provide a larger aperture which ensures that sufficient light reaches the
opposite side of the process. The light source focus is also adjustable by sliding the head of the lamp. In case of a non-
visible spot on the target tool slide it forward. If the spot is not bright enough slide the head backward to focalize the
light.
The lamp enables different light power modes:
1 click = high power mode (for long path)
2 quick clicks = low power mode (to save battery power and align at a low path without blurring)
3 quick clicks = blinking mode (might help to clearly identify the right light source)

Alignment procedure
This section describes the alignment of the process interface of the SITRANS SL -R03 option (long path O
temperature application).
CAUTION
Alignment procedure
Correct alignment is crucial for proper operation of the analyzer. The alignment procedure has to be carried out with
utmost care.
1. Before mounting the alignment kit, make sure that the contact surface between flange and the alignment kit is clean.
2. During the adjustment procedure make sure that you have obtained the smallest possible focal spot and that it is
positioned at the very center of the crosshair.
3. Before remounting the sensors make sure that the contact surfaces between sensors and flanges are clean.
The alignment of the process interfaces for -R03 options consists of the following alignment steps and must be carried
out with utmost care.
1. Alignment of the process interfaces with an alignment kit.
2. Fine alignment reading transmission value.
Step 1 - Alignment of the process interfaces with an alignment kit
To align a sensor, a point light source is mounted to the flange on the opposite side of the sensor to be aligned, and the
alignment optics is mounted to the flange of the sensor. This flange is aligned by centering the projected image of the
point source to the center of the crosshair of the alignment tool. Before you start the alignment procedure shut down
the device.
