Change Transmission Oil and Filter

NOTICE
Do not let dirt, water, or other debris to enter the expansion
chamber or transmission. Even a small amount of dirt can
damage the transmission. 
Use type F automatic transmission fluid. 
Note: 
The transmission fluid and filter must be changed at
the intervals listed in the Maintenance Schedule, during
maintenance or repair work, or if fluid is discolored from
overheating or contamination. 
Always replace the transmission filter when you change the
transmission fluid. Make sure the filter base and surrounding
area is absolutely clean before you remove the old filter. 
Oil Capacity 
2WD 
4WD 
4WD w/540  9.0 ± 0.5 qts.
1. Remove the drain plug (A, Figure 28). Drain the
transmission fluid into an appropriate container.

2. Clean the base and use a wrench to replace the filter (B). 
3. Install the drain plug. 
4. Add Type F transmission fluid through the oil fill. 
5. Turn ON the tractor for several minutes until transmission
is warm. Check the transmission fluid level with a dipstick.

Check Tire Pressure

The tire pressure should be checked periodically, and
maintained at the levels shown in the chart. Note that these
pressures may differ slightly from the "Max Inflation" stamped
on the side-wall of the tires. The pressures shown give the
correct traction, improve cut quality, and extend tire life.

Check Front Axle Oil Level (4WD Models
Only)
Use 80W-90 Gear Lube. 
1. Clean the area around the front axle dipstick (A,
Figure 29). 
2. Remove the front axle dipstick, remove remaining oil with
a clean cloth, and set the dipstick aside.
3. Install the dipstick in the fill area. 
4. Remove the dipstick and check the oil level.  Make sure
that the oil level touches the hash marked area.
