Specifications Shared Interrupt Mechanism. The shared interrupt mechanism is a way of using the single interrupt line available to the PCI card efficiently. It allows the serial ports on the PCI Multiport Card to share only one IRQ line. Latching of the first asserted interrupt and a priority encoding system which queues any subsequent interrupts, allows the driver software to service the ports in an intelligent and orderly manner.
