UV Fluorescence applications

The Matrix 220 3U2-01U 1.2MP STD-UV 7MM HP model is designed for applications
using UV-sensitive fluorescent inks, which re-emit in the visible spectrum.
During fluorescence imaging, the item being inspected absorbs a shorter wavelength of
light (usually ultraviolet light) that excites a specific fluorophore, causing it to release
photons that fluoresce and emit light at a longer wavelength.
UV fluorescence applications require a filter that blocks the UV light source, transmit-
ting only the weaker fluorescence emission.
Please note that in UV fluorescence applications, the filter is used for passing the fluo-
rescence emission wavelength and blocking the excitation light source.
Common fluorescent excitations include 365nm, 395nm and 400nm.
Matrix 220 3U2-01U 1.2MP STD-UV 7MM HP is equipped with a High Power UV LEDs
Illuminator, which mainly emits at the wavelength of 365nm, therefore it is recom-
mended to use an ink sensitive to this wavelength.
The device also includes a 415nm Long Pass filter placed in front of the receiving lens,
which allows wavelengths greater than 415nm to pass (i.e. those of the visible spec-
trum), while the wavelengths falling into the UV are attenuated.
Typically, the re-emission of these UV inks is very weak compared to standard applica-
tions. Therefore, it is necessary to use a high Gain Multiplier value, especially for
dynamic applications (requiring the reading of moving objects) where the Very High
Power lighting mode is used.
On the other hand, for static or semi-static applications, it is recommended to use the
High Power-Strobed lighting mode.
CAUTION
NOTE
Please consider the note included in " LED Safety" on page x .
The reading diagrams shown in Reading Diagrams, starting on page 112 are
not referred to Matrix 220 3U2-01U 1.2MP STD-UV 7MM HP.
UV Fluorescence applications need to be tested with real samples, as per-
formance can change significantly depending on the ink used and the print-
ing surface.
