5-2. Cleaning

5-2-4. Cleaning the Tape Running Surface of the Lower Drum and Lead Surface

Note
Be careful not to damage the lower drum (especially the lead surface) during cleaning.
In addition, take care when cleaning the edge in the upper side of the lower drum because it is near the
video heads.
Tools
. Cleaning cloth : 3-184-527-01
. Cleaning fluid : 9-919-573-01
. Bamboo stick or equivalent (Never use a metallic skewer.)
Procedure
1. Run a bamboo stick (or equivalent) along the drum lead surface to remove magnetic powder and
other materials as shown below.

(a) Do not use a metallic skewer instead of a bamboo stock, as doing so will damage the tape
running surface.
(b) If magnetic powder is attached to the drum head surface, it may adversely influence the tracking.
Remove any magnetic powder completely.
2. Gently clean the tape running surface of the lower drum and the lead surface (shaded portion) using
the cleaning cloth moistened with cleaning fluid.
3. After cleaning, wipe the tape running surface of the lower drum and the lead surface using a dry
cleaning cloth.
