Using Visual Modular Messaging on Avaya IP Phones
(4620, 4620SW, 4610SW)
Visual Modular Messaging enables you to review and manage your voicemail from the screen of your
Avaya IP Phone. With Visual Modular Messaging, you can:
Quickly scan a list of your messages.
View message details such as the caller name, the day/date/time and length of call, and the status of the
message (played or not yet played).
Listen to your messages in any order.
Pause, fast forward, rewind, and delete messages.
Return a call without having to look up the caller's number.
Starting Visual Modular Messaging
To start Visual Modular Messaging, press the Web soft key and select "Visual Modular Messaging" from
the Voice Office menu. You will be prompted for your password. If your telephone extension does not
automatically display, please reboot your phone.
After you log in, a message list displays. If you see the message "Could not log onto voicemail server.
Check credentials.", press Retry, verify your credentials, and log in again.
While you are logged in to Visual Modular Messaging, the "Visual Modular Messaging" menu entry is
replaced with "# Unread Voice Messages". A new message is indicated by lit lamp and a "*" in front of the
message. For example, "* 17:50 5239" means there's a new message from 5239.
Browsing and Playing Voicemail Messages
Visual Modular Messaging displays a list of your voicemail messages on your IP phone. The display
includes the caller name and the time that the message was received.
To scroll the
Use the up and down navigation keys.

To play a message
Use the up and down navigation keys to highlight the message, press the soft key
beside the message, and then press the Play soft key. The display indicates the length
of the message, in seconds.
To listen to a
Start playing the message to the speaker and then pick up the handset.

To pause a
While the message is playing, press the Pause soft key. After twenty seconds in
message
inactivity, you will be returned to the message list.
To fast forward or
While the message is playing, press the F.Fwd or Rewind soft key.
rewind a message
Alternatively, after you select the message, press the Rewind soft key or press the
More soft key and then the F.Fwd soft key.
To delete a
After you select the message, press the More soft key twice and then press the Delete
message
soft key.
To call back the
After you select the message, press the More soft key twice and then press the Call
message sender
soft key.
