DISASSEMBLY
General Instructions
Never apply excessive pressure by a holding device,
S
which may cause distortion of a part.
Apply pressure evenly to parts which have a press fit.
S
Apply even pressure to the bearing race that will be
S
press fitted to the mating part.
Use correct tools and fixtures when servicing this
S
tool.
Don't damage "O" rings when servicing this tool.
S
Use only genuine ARO replacement parts for this
S
tool. When ordering, specify part number, descrip-
tion, tool model number and serial number.
Disassembly should be done on a clean workbench
S
with a clean cloth spread to prevent the loss of small
parts. After disassembly is completed, all parts should
be thoroughly washed in a clean solvent, blown dry
with air and inspected for wear levels, abuse and con-
tamination. Double sealed or shielded bearings
should never be placed in solvent unless a good meth-
od of m- -lubricating the bearing is available. Open
bearings may be washed but should not be allowed to
spin while being blown dry.
Disassembly of Tool:
1.
Remove Cap Screws (44) releasing Hammer Case
(40) from Housing (1).
2.
Remove the impact mechanism from the hammer
case and set it on the workbench, drive end up.
Hammers (35) are identical and are assembled to
Hammer Frame in a certain relationship. Before
removing Hammers (35), using a black felt tip pen,
mark the top Hammer "T" and the bottom Ham-
mer "B". Mark both Hammers on the same end.
3.
Slowly rotate the Anvil (36) clockwise until it comes
up solid. DO NOT ROTATE FURTHER.
4.
Gently lift the Anvil from the Hammer Frame with-
out disturbing the Hammers.
5.
Remove the two Hammer Pins (34) releasing the
Hammers (35).
6.
Remove the Motor Assembly from the Housing.
7.
Grasp the Cylinder in one hand and tap the drive end of
Rotor with a soft face Hammer; Motor will come apart.
8.
Remove Retaining Ring (21), releasing Rear End
Plate (23) and bearing (22).
9.
Remove Air Strainer (17) releasing Spring (16)
Throttle Valve (15) O- -ring (14) and Valve Stem (12).
Remove Screw (7) and reverse Valve Knob (6) re-
leasing Reverse Valve (3) and components.

ASSEMBLY
Upon reassembling, lubricate parts where required. Use
33153 grease, or equivalent, in bearings. Use 36460
lubricant for "O" ring assembly. When assembling "O"
rings or parts adjacent "O" rings, care must be exer-
cised to prevent damage to the rubber sealing surfaces.
A small amount of grease will usually hold steel balls
and other small parts in place while assembling.
Grease and assemble two O- -rings (4) to grooves in
Bushing (3).
Coat Reverse Valve (5) with ARO 29665 Spindle Oil.
Assemble Spring (10) and Ball (9) to Reverse Valve
(10) and assemble Reverse Valve into Bushing (3).
Assemble knob (6) to Reverse Valve, securing with
Screw (7).
Coat Valve Stem (12) with ARO 29665 Spindle Oil
and assemble into Housing.
Assemble Throttle Valve (15) with O- -ring (14) and
Spring (16) into Housing, securing with Air Strainer
(17).
Tighten air strainer to 35 - - 40 in. lb.
Assemble Bearing (22) to Rear End Plate (23) press-
ing on outer race of Bearing.
Coat cylinder- -side of End Plate (23) with ARO
29665 Spindle Oil and assemble to Rotor, pressing on
inner race of Bearing.
Secure with retaining Ring (21).
