Prepare to test

Click on Head Impulse – Lateral to get started. Next click on Prepare which will start the real time pretest
eye movement raw data monitor and the practice mode which allows you to perform head impulses
without collecting the data.

After selecting Prepare the head impulse testing screen is displayed. The examiner needs to instruct the
patient to focus on the target in front of them and to relax their neck muscles throughout the impulses.
Instruct the patient to try not to blink during the head movement and to try not to resist the head
movement. Instructing the patient to clench his or her teeth may help with the application of high
acceleration head motion.
Place both hands on the jaw of the patient from behind. The correct technique for positioning the hands
during the impulses is shown below.
