Chapter 13: Troubleshooting

PROBLEM
Check SpO2 Sensor is displayed.
Unit operates when connected
to external charger, but not on
battery power.
Display does not light.

Green (charge) LED
not lit.
No pulse registering on bargraph.
Pulse rate erratic, intermittent, or
incorrect.
Lead Off is displayed.
ECG electrodes are connected, but
no ECG waves or messages are
displayed .

POSSIBLE CAUSE
Sensor not connected to monitor
or patient.
Sensor improperly positioned on
patient.
Incorrect sensor for application.
Defective sensor or patient cable.
Battery shelf life exceeded.
If operating on battery, battery
may need charging.
External charger disconnected.
Sensor or patient cable
disconnected from monitor.
Sensor incorrectly positioned.
Poor patient perfusion.
Defective sensor or patient cable.
Sensor incorrectly positioned.
Poor patient perfusion.
Patient motion.
Ambient light.
ECG lead(s) not connected to
patient cable.
ECG lead broken (high impedance).
Electrode impedance too high.
The ECG function is disabled.

Chapter 13: Troubleshooting
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Connect the sensor to the patient
cable and connect the patient
cable to the monitor.
Reposition the sensor on the
patient.
Choose the correct sensor for the
application.
Change the sensor or contact
Smiths Medical PM, Inc. Veterinary
Division service department.
Contact Smiths Medical PM,
Inc. Veterinary Division service
department.
Recharge battery.
Connect charger.
Check connections to patient cable
and sensor.
Reposition sensor on patient.
Reposition sensor on patient.
Try a new sensor or contact Smiths
Medical PM, Inc. Veterinary Division
service department.
Reposition sensor on patient.
Reposition sensor on patient.
Patient must be still for monitor to
function properly. Place extremity
on a pillow, which acts as a "buffer"
to motion.
Shield with towel.
Connect ECG lead(s) to patient
cable.
Replace ECG lead.
Reapply electrodes.
Use the ECG menu to enable the
ECG function.
