Connecting to the iSCSI Data Ports

The f ollowing sect ions describe how t o connect t he DSN-1100 dat a port s.
3.4.1

Connecting to the DSN-1100 Host Network Connection Ports

The DSN-1100 st orage syst em has f our RJ-45 dat a port s. These port s connect t o your SAN
using eit her a st raight -t hrough or cross-over RJ-45 Et hernet cable (t he DSN-1100 st orage
syst em aut o-senses t he t ype of cable used). One cable is needed f or each RJ-45 dat a port .
1. At t ach one end of an Et hernet cable t o host net work connect ion port 0 on t he DSN-1100
st orage syst em back panel. Connect t he ot her end of t he cable t o your SAN or host
syst em.
2. To connect addit ional host net work connect ion port s t o your SAN, repeat st ep 1 using
anot her Et hernet cable and t he next available DSN-1100 st orage syst em port in sequence
(port 1, t hen port 2, and so on). Do not skip port s when making t hese connect ions.

Connecting to the Management Port

Connect ing a PC t o t he management port let s you conf igure and manage t he DSN-1100
st orage syst em. This connect ion is made using a PC wit h an inst alled NIC and eit her a cross-
over cable (if connect ing direct ly t o t he management port ) or a st raight -t hrough cable (if
connect ing t o t he management port using a hub or swit ch).
To receive email alert s f rom t he DSN-1100 st orage syst em, be sure t he management port can
communicat e via Et hernet wit h your mail server.
1. Connect eit her end of an Et hernet cable t o a NIC inst alled in a PC.
2. Connect t he ot her end of t he cable int o t he DSN-1100 st orage syst em Mgmt 10/ 100 port . This
port is locat ed t o t he right of t he diagnost ic port on t he back panel.

Do not connect one NIC t o t he management and host net work connect ion
port s. Connect one NIC t o t he management port and connect anot her NIC in
t he same PC or a dif f erent PC t o t he host net work connect ion port (s).
