Chapter 1 Introduction

The DSN-1100 st orage syst em is an int elligent , high-perf ormance mult iple Gigabit Et hernet
st orage solut ion designed f or small businesses t hat want t o improve t he reliabilit y,
availabilit y, serviceabilit y, and perf ormance of t heir st orage syst ems. It provides a range of
benef it s and f eat ures f rom it s abilit y t o use f amiliar, proven, and widespread net working
t echnologies like IP and Et hernet f or st orage solut ions.
Based on an Int ernet Prot ocol-St orage Area Net work (IP-SAN) archit ect ure, t he DSN-1100
st orage syst em is built around an iSNP8008 Syst em-On-A-Chip, wit h t he f ollowing f eat ures:
Up t o 5 int ernal Serial Advanced Technical At t achment (SATA) drives

Up t o 512 MB of syst em memory

Up t o 1 GB of buf f er (cache) memory

Four 1GbE local-area net work (LAN) connect ors accessed via t he back panel

A 10/ 100 Mbps management port

An RS-232-C DB9 diagnost ic port f or t roubleshoot ing purposes

