    Introduction The Infinity series of inkjet plotters provide continuous throughput on constantly moving paper rolls. The Infinity is the most affordable plotter of its kind. The Infinity is ideal for plotting in an ultra wide format, yet small enough to fit into any design or pattern making area. This compact upright plotter is quiet, easy to install, uses minimal floor space and can be conveniently set against a wall.

    Temporarily remove the plotter mounting bolts and washers from the top inside of each support column (6 places each support column) CAUTION: Use care to avoid damaging the two connectors illustrated in Figure 5 during installation of the plotter on the support columns. Lift the plotter from the shipping container using the wood handles.

    Leveling the Infinity Due to the ability of the support columns to bend, the plotter can stand on an uneven floor and still have all six feet flat on the floor. With this “out of level” condition, the mandrel and the drive roll will not be parallel, causing the paper to track quickly to one side.

Do the following during the leveling: Screw left front and rear feet (positions 1 and 3) out to the floor to level the bubble. Screw left front and rear feet (positions 1 and 3) out one half turn to share of the weight of the plotter.

    Changing the Plotter Power Setting Plotters are set for 230 volt operation at the factory. Check the yellow power decal on the rear of the plotter to verify power setting before plugging it in. If your power source is 230 volts, proceed to step h. If your power source is between 100-120 volts, change the plotter to 115 volt operation as follows (Figure 8): Lift the top cover (1) off the plotter.

    Remove the electrical box rear panel (3) to access the power switch (4). Set the power switch (4) to the 115 volt position. Install the electrical box rear panel (3) and tighten the screws (2). Install the top plotter cover (1). Install a yellow 110 volt power rating sticker over the yellow 220 volt sticker on the rear.

    Connecting Cables To Rear of Plotter Attach the AC power cord to between the power connector on the rear of the plotter (Figure 10) and the wall socket. For Infinity 85 (network use), attach the network twisted pair cable between the plotter network connector and a 10/100-Base T (twisted pair) network connector in your facility (Figure 10).

    Bulk Ink Cartridge Installation Install the bulk ink cartridge into the cartridge mount on the left side of the plotter. Push the cartridge until it latches. Figure 11. Installing the Bulk Ink Cartridge WARNING! De-energize the bulk ink system by pushing the Access Pens button on the Infinity control panel before removing the bulk ink cartridge.

    Type n:\setup, where n is the CD Rom drive letter. Select OK When the Welcome to the Gerber Technology Infinity Installation window opens (Figure 12), click on the Install Infinity Software link and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the software installation.

    Communications Setup There are two ways of communicating with the Infinity plotter: Serially (Infinity 45 or 85) or by the network (Infinity 85). The Infinity needs to be set up to use either one of those communication methods. Serial Use Setup – Infinity 45 and Infinity 85 Open Gerber Devices by selecting Start/Settings/Control Panel/Gerber Devices.

    Set the Baud Rate as follows: Make sure the plotter is offline. Push Menu (5 times) until Select Baud Rate is displayed. Push Select. Push Menu (3 times) until 57600 is displayed. Push Select. The asterisk should appear in the display to confirm choice as default setting.

    Long-Life Ink Delivery System - Infinity 85 Description The long life ink delivery system for the Infinity 85 Plotter benefits the user with more plotting time and fewer stops in production to load ink. The system includes the components shown in the simplified figure below.

    System Priming Note: This priming procedure should be performed with the plotter turned on and initialized, and the head positioned over the parking station. Select the priming tool from the accessories kit. This tool consists of a 100cc syringe, a short section of ink outlet tubing, and a male side of the CPC connector.

    Connect the priming tool (3) to the pressure regulator CPC connector (2). Note: The plotter is shipped with the pressure regulators already installed. Do not remove the pressure regulators.     Check the tubing for air bubbles that become visible only after the ink has settled. If a 1 inch or longer bubble of air is visible, prime the system again. Note: Some air in the pressure regulator output tubing is normal. Push the CPC connector back into the u-bracket on the side of the print cartridge.

    Paper Installation Paper Supply Roll Place the paper roll (3) in front of the plotter with the leading edge positioned as shown (Figure 22): Note: A 30 yard roll of paper for test and diagnostics is included with the plotter. Insert the paper supply mandrel (3) though the paper roll (4) from the right side.

    Paper Path Disengage and lower the nipbar arm. Do this by pulling the spring-loaded pin in the nipbar arm from the hole. Verify that the pinch rollers are spaced evenly along the length of the rubber drive roll. Thread the paper through the paper path following the sequence 1 through 6 as shown (Figure 23).

    Paper Take-Up Roll The Infinity series of Inkjet plotters have the ability to either drop completed plots on to the floor or take them up automatically onto another paper core. If you want the completed plots to be wound onto another paper core, the take-up mandrel needs to be installed. See Figure 24.

    Continue advancing the paper until the leading edge (1) wraps around the roll (2) and tucks under by at least 3 inches (76 mm) without wrinkling. Make sure the paper is flat on the platen or it may touch the inkjet cartridges when installed.

    Plot Length Calibration Verify that Use Paper Encoder is checked (Figure 28). This will ‘gray out’ the Drop On Floor and Take-Up buttons. Allow the paper to fall on the floor during this procedure. Click on the Start Box Test button (Figure 28) to plot a 30 inch box.

    Test Plot In helping you become more familiar with the plotter, we will make a test plot using WinPlot software.
