Chapter 2. Installing the Device Driver Software
This chapter is for non-SP RS/6000 systems. For RS/6000 SP systems, use Chapter 3,
"Installing the Device Driver on the RS/6000 SP System" on page 7.
This chapter explains how to install device driver software. The device driver is provided
for the AIX operating system. However, to be sure that you have the latest version of
the device driver, check the cryptographic Web site at
http://www.ibm.com/security/cryptocards
Be sure you have read Chapter 1, "Description and Requirements" on page 1.
Before you begin the installation of the PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor device driver,
you must determine whether to:
v Install the device driver software first
v Install your coprocessor hardware first
Note: If the AIX operating system is not installed on your system unit, install the PCI
If your installed AIX operating system supports the PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor and
you have had a PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor installed previously, the device driver
may be already installed on this AIX operating system, and you can go to Chapter 4,
"Installing the PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor" on page 13 for instructions.
Otherwise, do the following to install the device driver:
1. Turn on the system unit power.
2. Log in as root user.
3. Insert the media containing the device driver software (for example; CD-ROM) into
the appropriate media device.
4. Type the following System Management Interface Tool (SMIT) fast path:
smitty devinst
5. Press Enter. The Install Additional Device Software screen highlights the INPUT
device/directory for software option.
Cryptographic Coprocessor before you install the AIX operating system. See
Chapter 4, "Installing the PCI Cryptographic Coprocessor" on page 13.
If the AIX operating system is installed on your system, install the PCI
Cryptographic Coprocessor device driver before you install the adapter. Use this
chapter.
