Power Diagnosis
Check p o wer (multimeter may be useful)
• BDE p ower LED should be amber wh en BDE switched OFF but po wer supplied . If n o t check po wer sup ply
input to BDE is between 100/240VAC into AC PSU which in turn should be providing 24VDC or between
11VDC and 32VDC if usin g DC sup ply.
• When BDE is switched on power LED should go green. If it doesn't then the internal power circuitry of the
BDE is broken, replace BDE. *initial start-up LED will be amber which indicates power to the unit just not
switched "on".
Note: If the power LED is amber it means some power is being provided to the BDE, but not necessarily
enough. A voltmeter can be used to check this.
ADE/BDE Communications
A flashing red status light indicates the BDE is unable to communicate with the ADE.
1. Disconn ect both ends o f the ADE/B D E cable an d test with an Ethernet cable tester.
• An adaptor cable is required to convert the ADE cable end to a RJ45 for easier testing. This may need to be
built.
2. Inspect cable for damage. Frayed o r spliced cables sho uld be replaced .
3. Insp ect ADE an d BDE ports fo r damage.
4. Disconnect power and test input levels.
5. For replacement, if cable tests OK in step 1 then investigate the BDE first and then the ADE for possible
issues. Retest setup after each compo nen t h as been swapped .
Signal Strength
Check signal strength LED or the signal strength indicator on the status web page.
Make a voice or data call from the Iridium Pilot unit to double check.
Observe the sign al LED status o ver time. Does th e LED ch ang e colo r frequen tly ? Is there a pattern ? Is the sign al
LED red for longer than 5 to 10 minutes?
It could be that the install location suffers from intense RF interference or physical obstructions within line of
sight to the sky.
Site Survey Tool
• Site Survey Tool – This application puts the Iridium Pilot unit into a test mode and then proceeds to record
the n oise level o n all p ossible chan nels.
• Needs to run o n a Wind o ws PC o n th e same subnet as th e ISU (i.e. 192.16 8.0.xx x)
• Copy the exe and dll to a folder you create on the PC desktop, it will store the results in the same directory.
• Bro wse to directory and select SurveyTo o l.ex e to run.
• The program needs to know the Iridium Pilot IP address, you will be able to select the default IP address or
enter an altern ative .
• Once the survey begins, graph data will begin to populate. There are 251 channels to test so it can take
several minutes.
Note: If you do not stop or allow the survey tool to complete, the Iridium Pilot unit will be left in test mode.
You need to power cycle the unit to force it out of test mode.
