This section contains instructions necessary for proper
maintenance of your semitrailer. Landoll Bottom Dump
semitrailer is designed for years of service with minimal
maintenance. However, proper maintenance is important
for durability and safe operation and is an owner/user
responsibility.

Maintenance Schedule

Trailer maintenance includes periodic inspection and
lubrication.
See Figure
4-2, lists the recommended
maintenance and lubrication tasks by time interval and by
accumulated mileage (use whichever occurs first).
Operating the tractor or trailer with defective,
broken or missing parts may result in serious
injury or death, damage to the tractor/trailer, its
cargo, or property in its path.
The following maintenance practices are recommended
for your Landoll Bottom Dump Trailer:
1. Check the suspension and tighten the bolts to the
specified torque within the first 50 miles of operation.
See Chapter 2, (SEE PAGE 2-3).
2. Tighten wheel nuts properly after two (2) trips after
delivery. A wheel tightening sequence is provide,
See Figure
4-18.
3. Cam and brake adjustment is governed by the type
and severity of trailer use. Regular maintenance of
grease fittings on cam shafts is recommended. Your
trailer may be equipped with a centralized grease
system to help with the lubrication process. However,
it is the owner/operator responsibility to ensure
grease system functions and lubricates properly.
4. Lubrication is recommended at a minimum of every
60 days. As severity of use increases the time
between lubrication intervals decreases.
5. Bleed the air when lubricating. This allows for better
penetration of grease into the cam shafts.

DANGER
Inspection
1. Inspect the tractor, the trailer, and trailer parts
periodically for damage or signs of pending failure.
Damaged or broken parts must be repaired or
replaced immediately and before operating the
semitrailer.
2. Use the Troubleshooting Guide in Chapter 5 to
check for "SYMPTOMS" and "PROBLEMS" of any
trailer system not functioning correctly, or where
wear, distortion, or breakage is found. Administer
"REMEDY" according to the right-hand column of the
troubleshooting section.
Lubrication
See Figure 4-1
and
See Figure 4-1
points and intervals, method of application, and lubricant
required, and illustrate the location of each part to be
lubricated. During inspections of the trailer, if lubricants
are found to be fouled with dirt or sand, those parts
should be cleaned with paint thinner, dried, and
relubricated immediately. Dirt in a lubricant forms an
abrasive compound that will wear parts rapidly.
1. There are two areas of the Bottom Dump Semitrailer
that need lubrication - the axles and axle
components and the rocking fifth wheel plate.
See Figure 4-1
for lubrication points.
2. Use a grease and hub oil suited for your operating
environment. Landoll provides
general guideline of suggested manufacturers and
grades of oil and lubricant for a Landoll trailer.
Paint thinner and other solvents are flammable
and toxic to eyes, the skin, and respiratory tract.
Avoid skin and eye contact. Follow all
manufacturers recommended instructions and
safety precautions.
