7. SELECTION OF TRAP, STRAINER, AND SEPARATOR KITS Traps, strainers, and drains are integral elements of any atmospheric and pressurized steam system. An inlet trap prevents condensate generated during initial start-up and normal operation from entering the ultimateSAM distributor or control valve. An inlet strainer removes pipeline debris, such as scale, rust, and other solids, which may find its way into the pipeline system.
