Set wire feed speed (SET)
This is the speed at which the wire feeder has
been set to run.
Displayed wire feed speed (DISPLAY)
This is the value which is displayed when the
system is feeding wire.
Note - This will be the same as the set value if
the system is not fitted with a tach-generator.
Actual wire feed speed (ACTUAL)
This is the speed of wire feed measured using the
time/distance measurement. If you have run the
wire for 30 seconds, measure the length which
has fed in this time and multiply this number by
2 to arrive at the wire feed speed in inches or
centimeters per minute.
Note - At very high wire feed speeds, it may be
more convenient to run the wire for 15 seconds
or less and then multiply accordingly to avoid
feeding too much wire.
If the DISPLAY value does not agree with the
ACTUAL value, then carry out the following
calculation:
DISPLAY
------------
X HIGH INPUT = NEW HIGH IN-
PUT
ACTUAL
Now, carry out the following calculation:
LOW LIMIT
----------------
X HIGH INPUT = NEW LOW IN-
PUT
HIGH LIMIT
Switch off the 9629 control and switch it on
while pressing both the jog touch pads to enter
the calibration mode. Press the scroll down
touch pad six times to call up Screen 23, High
Input.
Use the adjust knob to reset the high input num-
ber to the new number calculated in the routine
above.
Press the scroll down touch pad three more times
to call up Screen 26, Low Input.
9629 Microprocessor Controller
Use the adjust knob to reset the low input num-
ber to the new number calculated in the routine
above.
Switch the control off and on and then repeat
the test. Check the resulting wire feed speed to
verify that it is now accurate. If the wire feed
speed is still not correct, repeat the calibration
procedure.
Now check the SET value you recorded to ensure
that it agrees with the recorded ACTUAL value.
If not, make the following calculation:
SET
------------
X HIGH OUTPUT = NEW HIGH OUT-
PUT
ACTUAL
Switch off the 9629 control and switch it on
while pressing both the jog touch pads to enter
the calibration mode. Press the scroll down
touch pad five times to call up Screen 22, High
Output.
Use the adjust knob to reset the high output num-
ber to the new number calculated in the routine
above. Switch off the 9629 control.
Switch on the control and, when Screen 2 Wire
Speed appears, use the adjust knob to turn the
wire feed speed to a value close to the minimum.
Run the wire feed by pressing the start button
and, at the same time start the stop watch. Con-
tinue to run the wire for a convenient period of
time (say 2 minutes to obtain a reasonable length
of wire) and, at the end of this time, press the
stop switch to stop the wire feed.
As the wire is feeding, record the following:
Set wire feed speed (SET)
This is the speed at which the wire feeder has
been set to run.
Actual wire feed speed (ACTUAL)
This is the speed of wire feed measured using
the time/distance measurement. If you have run
the wire for 2 minutes, measure the length which
has fed in this time and divide this number by
2 to arrive at the wire feed speed in inches or
centimeters per minute.
