EXTERIOR INSTALLATION (CONT'D)
Step 9. If the chimney must pass through a soffit
overhang above, cut and frame an opening
according to the Roof Opening Chart shown
in Figure 1. Important: Do not cut a truss!
If desired, a firestop can be used to enclose
the underside of the soffit. If using this part,
be sure to follow the recommended framing
requirements shown in Table 1 on page 3.
WARNING: The clearance between the chimney
and combustible material must not be less
than 2". Do not fill required air space in this
area with insulation.
Step 10. Stack a chimney length on top of the tee.
Turn it clockwise to lock it in place.
Step 11. Stack the next chimney length on the first
length. Continue until the required chimney
height is reached.
NOTE: In exterior installations, the chimney must
be stabilized at 8-foot intervals. A wall band
(AWBU) or Offset Support (URES) can be used
for this purpose.
