Operation
Clean the groove of the guide bar with a suitable tool of blow it out with
compressed air. Take special care to clean the oil ducts in the guide bar.
Inspect the chain guides for wear and if necessary carefully smooth them
with a file and emery cloth. If the guide bar is at some point worn beyond
repair it must be replaced with a new one. Guide bars can be ordered from
the Westfalia Werkzeug Company. (Best. Nr. 55 59 79).
Lay the new chain into the groove. Observe the correct cutting direction.
There are directional arrows on the chain, which must correspond with the
arrows on the housing.
Now mount chain and guide bar. Lay the chain around the drive sprocket
and set the guide bar down onto the unit. Make sure the chain tensioner
(14) snaps into the hole in the guide bar. Remount the plastic cover and
tension the chain. Liberally oil it with chainsaw oil and let the chain run for
a few moments. After that check the chain tension, if necessary adjust it.
After every second chain worn out, the drive sprocket should be changed.
A set of two saw chains and one drive sprocket is available from the
Westfalia Werkzeug Company. To change the drive sprocket, remove the
spring ring from the drive shaft and pull the drive sprocket and the two
washers off the drive shaft. If necessary use a penetrating lubricant. After
that slide the parts included in the rebuild set onto the drive shaft and
secure them with the spring ring.
