Problem
Oxygen purity below
specified purity (50–70%).
Valve makes loud
"chattering" noise.
Very low purity oxygen
output (21–50%).

Probable Cause
Inadequate cycle
pressure.
Oxygen demand exceeds
oxygen generator
capacity.
Low purity oxygen during
initial start-up.
Unit shut down for
extended period—no
pressure in oxygen system.
Momentary power loss.
Inadequate feed air.
Valves not cycling
properly.
Improperly wired or
defective circuit
board/PLC.
Torn valve diaphragm.
Solenoid valve not functioning properly. Check for the
following causes:
Defective coil.
Loose or defective wire to
valve.
Defective circuit
board/PLC. (No power
output to valve.)
Valve remains energized
and open.
Defective valve.
Worn internal parts on
valve.
Low voltage.
Low voltage circuit
board/PLC output.
Dirty valve.
Worn valve core.
Defective EMI filter.
Leaking check valves.
Plugged muffler.
Solution
Adjust or replace feed air
regulator.
Check oxygen usage or
check unit and oxygen
hoses and piping for leaks.
Start unit as described in
Chapter 6.
Start unit as described in
Chapter 6.
Vent low purity oxygen
from system as described
in Chapter 6.
Check air lines for
obstructions or adjust or
replace feed air regulator.
See valve sequence in
Appendix A.
Check the wiring or
replace circuit board/PLC.
Identify defective valve
and rebuild valve.
Replace coil.
Repair or replace wire.
Replace circuit board/PLC.
Check the valve or the
circuit board/PLC.
Rebuild valve.
