Important notes on charging
Gas formation during battery charging!
An acrid smell of gas indicates a high risk
of explosion!
Extinguish flames, naked lights and avo-
id creating sparks!
Do not switch off the charger!
Do not remove the terminal clips!
Ventilate the room immediately!
Turn the rotary disk all the way to the
left (minimum charge current)!
When the room has been fully ventilated,
place the mains switch on the charger in
the "0" (OFF) position!
Have the battery tested by a Bosch
after-sales service department.
Always charge batteries in well ventilated rooms.
Extinguish all sources of fire, naked lights, and avoid
activities that may cause sparks while charging the
battery.
Only batteries that have been tested are permitted
to be charged in parallel.
Do not charge absolutely maintenance-free batteries
together with standard batteries (maintenance-free
according to DIN).
Attempting to charge non-rechargeable batteries is
not permitted.
Switch off all consumers in the vehicle when char-
ging deeply discharged batteries.
The selected charge voltage must be the same as the
nominal voltage for the battery.
The mains connection cable and the charging cables
must be in perfect condition.
Before the charger is connected to the mains power, the
network switch on the charger must be set to "0" (OFF).
Wear safety glasses.
Wash any acid splashes off skin or clothing immedia-
tely with large amounts of water.
If necessary, contact a doctor.
Unscrew the cell plugs on standard batteries before
charging.
Switch the charger off before connecting and discon-
necting the terminal clips.
Never disconnect the terminal clips while a battery is
being charged.
Do not disconnect the battery from the vehicle elec-
trical system while it is being charged.
Never short circuit the terminal clips.

Charging the battery

i
If the terminals have connected incorrectly or short
circuited, the charging voltage remains switched off.
i
The battery does not need to be isolated from the
vehicle electrical system while charging.
!
To prevent excessive gas formation, you should ensu-
re that the ambient temperature is higher than 15°C,
and in the case of older batteries place the switch in
the "Warm battery" position. If the switch on the char-
ger is in the "Cold battery" position, charging must be
terminated immediately the battery is fully charged.
The voltage for the battery charger is supplied from the
lighting mains. The device is set to 230 V, 50 Hz by the
manufacturer.
Follow these steps for charging the battery:
1. Switch off the battery charger (Fig. 1, Pos. 7).
2. Unscrew the cell plugs on standard batteries before
charging.
3. Attach the terminal clips (Fig. 1, Pos. 9) to the bat-
tery, ensuring correct polarity. Attach the red clip
to the positive terminal (+) and the black clip to the
negative terminal (-).
4. Place the "cold and warm battery" switch in the cor-
rect position (Fig. 1, Pos. 6). Only the temperature
of the battery is to be considered.
5. Turn the regulator for limiting the charge current
(Fig. 1, Pos. 8) all the way to the left (minimum charge
current).
6. Set the voltage selector switch (Fig. 1, Pos. 5) to the
voltage specified for the battery that is being charged.
7. Switch on the battery charger. The red LED must
then be lit and steady (Fig. 1, Pos. 2).
8. Set the regulator for limiting the charge current to
the value specified by the battery manufacturer.
!
The manufacturer's instructions must always be
followed for setting the charge current.
i
In this mode, the charge current should not be
more than 20% of the battery capacity (Ah).
Example: For a 45 Ah battery in this mode, the
maximum charge current is calculated as follows:
45 Ah * 0.2 = 9 A.
