TROUBLESHOOTING CHART (CONTINUED)
PROBLEM
When applying the brakes they squeal/squeak
Brakes not working effectively
Steering not accurate
Knocking or shuddering when applying the brakes
Wobbling wheel
Gear shifts faulty
* Repair of damaged front wheel rim not recommended. Replace wheel rim.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
Brake blocks worn down
Brake block toe-in incorrect
Brake blocks / rim dirty or wet
Brake arms loose
Brake blocks worn down
Brake blocks or rims greasy, wet or dirty
Brake cables are binding / stretched / damaged
Brake levers are binding
Brakes out of adjustment
Wheels not aligned
Headset loose or binding
Front forks or frame bent
Bulge in the rim or rim out of true
Brake mounting bolts loose
Brakes out of adjustment
Disk brakes: disk may be bent or blocks not free
Forks loose in head tube
Axle broken
Wheel out of true
Hub cones loose
Headset binding
Derailleur cables sticking stretched / damaged
Front or rear derailleur not adjusted properly
Indexed shifting not adjusted properly
REMEDY
Replace blocks
Correct block toe-in

Tighten mounting bolts

Clean / adjust / replace cables

Align wheels correctly

Seek advice at a bicycle shop
