1.3 SAFETY EQUIPMENT AND SENSIBLE RIDING

As a road user you have responsibility for your own safety and the safety of others.
You need to know:
the road rules.
how to ride safely.
YOUR BICYCLE (CONT)
Know how to work all bicycle controls.
For riding in low light and night conditions, fit your bicycle with appropriate front and rear lamps.
YOUR CLOTHING
Wear a correctly fitted and fastened Approved helmet.
Be seen:
wear brightly coloured clothes - yellow, green and orange
are best for day, reflective tape improves the conspicuity
of riders at night.
Wear shoes, not thongs or ride with bare feet.
WARNING:
Check reflectors and mounting brackets regularly to make sure that they are clean,
straight, unbroken and securely mounted. Equip your bicycle with lights: white front and red rear.
Riding in low light or at night time without reflectors and lights is extremely dangerous.
The mounting position for reflectors shall be above the level of the back axle, and shall be such
that the reflector(s) are not obscured from view eg. By the riders clothing or by the wheel.
