The display of calculated tidal volume VT is used to
set the necessary difference between the two pres-
sure levels.
As in VC-SIMV, the time pattern is set with the
parameters of the basic setting for frequency f and
inspiration time Ti. The resultant inspiration and
expiration times are calculated by the device and
displayed in the lower half of the screen below the
curve setting. The lower pressure level is set with
the parameter PEEP whilst the upper pressure
level is set with the parameter P
The abruptness of pressure increase from the
lower pressure level to the upper pressure level is
determined with the »Ramp« setting. The transition
from controlled ventilation via the weaning phase to
fully spontaneous breathing is achieved by a grad-
ual reduction of the inspiratory pressure P
and/or frequency f.

PC-AC

Pressure Control – Assist Control
Pressure-controlled, assisted ventilation
Used for all patients, from those unable to breathe
spontaneously to those breathing spontaneously
before being weaned off the ventilator.
The duration of P
is determined by Ti. Sponta-
insp
neous breathing is possible at any time during ven-
tilation.
Each recognized inspiratory effort at the lower pres-
sure level by the patient will trigger a synchronized
inspiratory breath.
The ventilator will start a non-synchronized inspira-
tory breath at the latest after the inspiratory time
fixed by f and Ti has elapsed.
