6.5.10 To adjust the governor
1. Loosen the governor arm nut (A).

2. Hold the governor arm (B) with a pair of pliers.
3. Move the governor arm rearward and hold in
position.
4. Rotate the governor arm 180 degrees clockwise.
5. Tighten the governor arm nut (A) to 11 Nm/8.0 ft lb.
6. Make sure that the governor arm and throttle shaft
can move freely.

6.6 Muffler

6.6.1 To remove and install the muffler
1. Remove the muffler cover (A).

2. Remove the 2 muffler nuts (B).
3. Remove the 2 muffler bolts (C).
4. Remove the muffler (D) and the gasket (E).
5. Install in the opposite sequence.
6. Tighten the nuts on the muffler with the correct
Tightening torques on page 45 .

7. Tighten the nuts again to the same torque when the
engine is warm.
WARNING: The muffler becomes very hot
during and after operation, also at idle
speed. Use protective gloves to prevent
burn injuries.
6.6.2 To clean and examine the muffler
WARNING: Risk of burn injury or fire. The
muffler becomes very hot during operation.
WARNING: Risk of fire. The exhaust gases are
hot and can contain sparks.
1. Clean the muffler with a wire brush.
2. Clean the muffler cover with a moist cloth.
3. Examine the muffler for wear and damage. Replace
the muffler if it is damaged.
4. Examine the remaining parts. Replace worn or
damaged parts.
6.6.3 Spark arrestor (optional equipment)
WARNING: Let the engine become cool before
you remove the spark arrestor.
1. For HS 139A, remove the engine cover.
2. Remove the screws that hold the muffler cover.
3. Remove the muffler cover.
4. Remove the screw (A) and pull out the spark
arrestor.

5. Use a brush to remove carbon deposits from the
spark arrestor screen. Be careful not to cause
damage to the spark arrestor screen. Replace the
spark arrestor if it is damaged.
6. Install in the opposite sequence.
