Notes on the installation of synchronization modules

General notes on synchronization modules
NOTICE
Only use approved synchronization modules
When using components, in particular synchronization modules that are not released by
Siemens AG, Siemens cannot assume any responsibility for the specification-compliant
function of the "S7-400H CPU System".
LC connector technology
The connection to the S7-400 CPU uses LC connector tech‐
nology (Lucent Connector).

Wiring and inserting the synchronization module

1. Remove the dummy plug of the synchronization module.
2. Fold back the clip completely against the synchronization module.
3. Insert the synchronization module into the IF2 interface of the first CPU until it snaps into
place.
4. Insert the end of the fiber-optic cable into the synchronization module until it snaps into
place.
5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for the second synchronization module IF1.
6. Repeat the procedure for the second CPU.
Connect the IF2 interface of the first CPU with the IF2 interface of the second CPU and the
IF1 interface of the first CPU with the IF1 interface of the second CPU.
Note
Wiring synchronization modules crosswise
If you wire synchronization modules crosswise, i.e. the IF1 interface of the first CPU with the
IF2 interface of the second CPU and vice versa, the two CPUs take over the master role and
the system will not function properly. The LEDs IFM 1 and IFM 2 are lit on both CPUs.
Make sure that you connect the IF1 interface of the first CPU with the IF1 interface of the
second CPU and the IF2 interface of the first CPU with the IF2 interface of the second CPU.
