CHAPTER 1: Introduction 1. Introduction 1.1 Overview With the ServSwitch™ Multi Base Unit or Expansion Chassis or ServSwitch™ Multi MX (product codes KV150A-R2, KV160A-R2, and KV155A respectively), multiple users at your site can operate sets of servers and personal computers at the same time.

Installation 2.1 Installing the Cards To install a Management Card or Serial Control Card in a ServSwitch Multi or ServSwitch Multi MX, take these steps: 1. Position the ServSwitch Multi or MX so that its rear panel is facing you, as shown in Figure 2-1.

CHAPTER 3: Initial Configuration 3. Initial Configuration Once you install the Management Card and connect it to your network, you’ll need to configure it with your network’s TCP/IP settings if you’ll be using it for remote access. Sections 3.1 and 3.2 describe how to do this. Section 3.3 lists the other settings you’ll need to configure to get your serial-control system going, and points to the relevant sections elsewhere in the manual that give you point-by-point descriptions of how to do it.

From a user station attached to a ServSwitch Multi User Card, select the Management Card the same way you would select a computer.

Operation 4.1 Addressing Devices on the Serial Control Card Since each Serial Control Card has four ports, channel addressing (for port- selection purposes) requires more than just a chassis number and slot letter. You must also designate which port on the Serial Control Card the device is attached to.

CHAPTER 4: Operation 4.3.2 T LERT ESSAGE INDOW The Alert Message Window lists any failed or unauthorized command and, for user-station connections, turns the window red to alert administrators to the message. Pressing the space bar clears the alert by removing the red background. The message itself remains on-screen until the window is full, then is replaced by newer messages.

CHAPTER 4: Operation 4.6 Using the Administrator Menu Select the Administrator Menu by pressing “A” at the User Option Menu. The Administrator Menu will appear on your monitor. To exit this menu and return to the User Option Menu, press “X”. The menu’s available functions are described in the rest of this section.

Be very careful when you do this, and keep a record of the password in a secure location. If the password is botched or forgotten, you’ll have to call Black Box Technical Support and arrange to return the Card to the factory! 1.
