Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS The following symbols indicate important safety warnings and precautions throughout this manual: WARNING indicates that serious bodily harm or death may result from failure to adhere to the precautions.
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual INTRODUCTION With Encom proprietary “I/O Mapping” technology, any input at any device within the system can be used to THE HARMONY SYSTEM control one or more outputs within the entire system, through an IP network or the optional 900Mhz radio.
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual OVERVIEW This manual is a guide and reference for programming HARMONY IP I/O8 radios using Encom’s ControlPAK™ programming and diagnostics software. It contains instructions, suggestions, and information which guide you to set up and achieve optimal performance from your equipment.
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual SYSTEM TOPOLOGY There are two typical topologies supported with HARMONY IP I/O8s: I/O Mapping-Over-LAN and Networked Modes. I/O Mapping-Over-LAN provides simple ON/OFF control over an existing wired or wireless IP network for unlimited input and output.
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual LED INDICATORS There are four LED indicators on your HARMONY IP I/O8 radio as follows: Ø PWR LED: Indicates the radio is powered ON. Ø RF LED: Indicates the radio is linked and communicating (It will be OFF for the IP I/O8 NR).
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual INSTALLING CONTROLPAK Before you can configure your radio, you must first After downloading the latest version of the ControlPAK™ software: have the radio connected to your computer (refer to the previous chapter), and you must install 1.
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual CONFIGURING YOUR HARMONY IP I/O8 The first step in using ControlPAK™ to configure your radio is to enter the correct configuration mode. There are three options available from the main screen: •...
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual LAN CONNECTION AND STARTUP NOTE: A straight through Ethernet cable is required to connect the Harmony IP I/O8 to a switch, a hub, or the computer on which ControlPAK™ is installed.
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual LAN SEARCH To program a Harmony IP radio it must first be ‘discovered’ by ControlPAK. This means the radio must be physically connected to your Ethernet network, or connected directly to the computer on which you are running ControlPAK. The Real Time Network Scan list results screen (shown above) is the root menu which displays the ‘discovered’...
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual LAN SEARCH TABS Each of these tabs are defined as follows: My IP If your computer has multiple network interface cards [NIC], select the desired network interface on this § menu.
CONNECT LIST A Connect List file is used in instances where your HARMONY IP I/O8 radios are part of a different IP network and need to be accessed. This list could include all or only specific radios in a network. Each Connect List is saved as a specific file.
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual MODIFY LIST The Modify List button allows you to create, edit and categorize lists of radios. § To modify an existing Connect List, select (click) your file from Connect List file and then click the Modify List button.
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual Once a new Connect List file name is created, you can then add radios to the list from the Radios Found in LAN Search section. ADDING RADIOS TO YOUR CONNECT LIST...
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual CONFIGURING THE UNIT The ENCOM Configuration window allows you to configure several different parameters on your IP I/O8. This section will focus on the details of each parameter, which can be customized to best suit your system`s needs.
Pattern is set to 11. It is recommended to select a value that is different from the hop pattern of other Encom equipment. The primary hop pattern needs to match in each radio in the particular network for proper communication.
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual SYSTEM TAB NOTE: This tab is not available in the NR model In order for the IP I/O8 to communicate with other HARMONY devices on a particular network, a system needs to be created.

Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual Enter a Description for the HARMONY device–this may be the location where the device is installed. Press the Apply button to add this entry to the list. Repeat these steps for each HARMONY device that is to be...
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual ALERT TAB In the Alert tab you can configure your IP I/O8 to send out an alarm when an event has occurred (either involving a setting or system change, or a situation that requires maintenance). The different alarms and events that can be reported are shown below.
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual SNMP TAB The SNMP tab allows your IP I/O8 to be configured for use in an SNMP-based network. Note that you must first click the Enable SNMP Operation checkbox to configure SNMP settings.
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual PROTOCOL TAB The Protocol tab allows you to set up the communication method / protocol between your IP I/O8 and STRATOS I/O. The Protocol tab contains the following settings: • Gateway Protocol Mode – This setting controls the method of communication: o Polling –...
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual CALENDAR TAB The Calendar tab allows you to set the clock of your IP I/O8 manually, use the clock of your connected PC to set up the time, or connect to a Network Time Server to ensure that you constantly have the correct time set anywhere.
The IP I/O8 unit supports the use of a hard-switch for wireless on/off control over the 900MHz network and/or over IP-based LAN network with all Encom HARMONY devices. In the event of a conflict with the scheduler, the hard switch will take precedence over the scheduler. If there is a loss of communication, the I/O 8 will still operate under its internal clock and scheduler.
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual EVENT LOGS TAB The Events Logs tab allows you to record data concerning the conditions and performance of your overall system. You can setup the Event Log to record general information, warnings and errors in the log entries, as...
Harmony IP I/O8 Network Monitoring & Control User Manual SECURITY TAB The Security tab is where the user name and password for a radio can be configured. This ensures only authorized personnel are able to make changes to radio settings.
An Input is activated when it is connected to DC Ground using a switch or relay contacts. An Input can also be activated when pulled low by an Open Collector output. Inputs applied to the HARMONY IP I/O8 can be ‘dry’ contacts (no voltage applied). For example, a switch or relay.
Page 32
The following application outlines the connection of 2 relays to the HARMONY IP I/O8 Inputs. When a relay is activated, the Open contacts of the relay close which connects the HARMONY IP I/O8 Input to ground. This will activate the corresponding input.
Page 33
The Controller Equipment open collector outputs need to have a Pull Up Resistor (10K ohms) installed. The Controller Equipment signal ground must be connected to the HARMONY IP I/O8 ground. Connect each Controller Equipment open collector output to the HARMONY IP I/O8 Inputs as shown below:...
The Controller Input is at a high level. When the HARMONY IP I/O8 Output is activated, it is pulled to ground and the Controller Input is also pulled to ground. The Controller Input is at a low level.
