To allow temperature equalization and to avoid moisture and condensation when placing the device in
service for the first time or after it was in storage for a lengthy period, Siemens recommends leaving the
device for a minimum of 2 hours in the operating area before using it.
The protection device is designed for use in an industrial area, thus for installation in normal relay rooms and
plants, so that electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is ensured if installed properly.
Siemens recommends the following procedure:
NOTICE
The printed circuit board assembly of the device contains electrostatic sensitive devices (ESD), for example,
CMOS circuits.
Noncompliance with the ESD regulations can lead to material damage.
Comply with the ESD regulations.

Prevent static charges in the area around the printed circuit board assembly.
²
Do not remove or insert the pluggable circuit board assembly with the auxiliary voltage applied.

There is no hazard when the device is installed.
²
Provide contactors and relays, which work within the same cabinet or on the same relay panel with the

digital protection equipment, with suitable suppression filters.
If structurally possible, arrange the injection unit 7XT71 and the 7UM62/7UM85 in the same control
²
cabinet or close to one another.
Use shielded tie lines with a maximum length of 10 m between the injection unit 7XT71 and
²
7UM62/7UM85.
