RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SKIPPER
The skipper is fully responsible and must abide by the following basic rules:
1. Follow the international regulations for preventing collisions at sea and the local Croatian rules, which apply to the
selected and operated sea area. Pay attention to current restricted areas and restrictions.
2. Look carefully for people, animals and objects in the water.
3. Make sure that the boat and crew are up to the expected wind and sea conditions.
4. Pay attention to the safety of the team at all times.
5. Never drive under the influence of alcohol and / or drugs or medications.
6. While sailing keep a proper look-out at any time. The boat must be properly and securely moored according to the
wind and sea conditions.
7. At the anchorage, make sure that the boat is securely anchored by powerful drive-back in the engaged reverse
gear. It must not make any drive. Do not leave the boat unattended at the anchorage. The boat must be able to
move freely in a circle - so keep your distance to other boats, objects, shores, shallow waters and sufficient depth
of water throughout the swing radius. Select the bay according to secure protection on other boat traffic, forecasts
of wind and swell.
8. Make sure that the team receives appropriate training and is particularly instructed on the location and applica-
tion of the safety equipment (life jackets, life raft, distress signals, etc.).
9. Reduce your speed in poor visibility, stormy seas, persons in the water, boats and nearby floating objects.
10. Do not overestimate your own knowledge! Please ask the base, the authorities and / or experienced skippers for
advice and specific informations.
11. Practice the important maneuvers with your crewmembers, especially the man-overboard maneuver. Each person
on board should be able to carry out these maneuvers independently – even the experienced skipper may have to
go overboard and be rescued.
12. The water level in the bilge should be checked at regular intervals. It must not penetrate water.
13. Always pay attention to the correct functionality of the technical equipment, sails and engine cooling.
14. Especially on downwind courses sail a safe course and secure the boom to prevent a dangerous unintentional
turning over (accidental jibe).
15. Notwithstanding the seaworthiness of the boat and the certification category, protection against the high seas,
strong wind and current and associated phenomena are never guaranteed. Always pay attention to wind and cur-
rent. Always consider efficiency and qualification before a voyage the crew.
16. This boat may only be operated by persons who fulfill the respective legal requirements. In particular, these are a
valid patent according to the sea area and a valid maritime certificate for VHF radio. In Croatia, the croatian coast-
al patent is also valid.
17. Prepare each trip carefully, no matter how brief and supposedly insignificant, because: weather conditions can
change abruptly and accidents on board are possible even without swell and weather. You are responsible for time-
ly information about weatherforecasts and other conditions to make known dangers at sea and to act accordingly
forward-looking.
