The minimum required immersion depth depends on the type of medium (wet or
dry) as shown in Table 1. These figures should result in immersion errors of
<0.005 °C in most cases. Actual results depend on the type and form of the
surrounding materials.

The maximum immersion depth for the 1551A Ex is 50 mm (2 in) less than the total
length. Make sure the last 50 mm of Probe, nearest to the internal electronics of the
device, are not put into the heat source.
The maximum immersion depth for the 1552A Ex is 75 mm (3 in) less than the total
length. Make sure the last 75 mm of the Probe, nearest to the internal electronics of
the device, are not put into the heat source.
