4. Continue to push firmly until the handle fully engages. The camming foot on the carrier will engage into
a slot in the enclosure. You should hear a click as the latch handle engages and holds the handle
closed.

5. Verify that the amber Fault LED on the disk module handle is off. Verify that the front panel LED states
show no amber module faults. The enclosure front panel Drive Activity blue LED will blink to show disk
activity.

Replacing an IOM

Procedures for the removal and installation of an I/O Module.
Overview
Important: The IOM must be installed in IOM slot No.0. As you face the enclosure rear panel, this is the
IOM slot located on the right. An IOM blank must be installed in the adjacent slot (Slot 1) as shown in the
rear panel module slot index diagram. This configuration is required to ensure sufficient air flow through
the enclosure during operation.
The I/O module (IOM) denotes a controller module.
You may need to replace an expansion module when:
• The Fault LED is illuminated.
• Logs or events in the firmware indicate a problem with the module.
• Troubleshooting indicates a problem with the module.
Before you begin
Removing an IOM or IOM blank module from an operational enclosure significantly changes air flow
within the enclosure. Openings must be populated for the enclosure to cool properly. Leave modules in
the enclosure until ready to install a replacement. If replacing both IOMs in a dual-canister enclosure,
record configuration settings before installing the new controller modules. See "Removing the IOM" on
page 67, and "Installing the IOM" on page 68 for instructions about installing an additional controller
module.
Verifying component failure
• Check Module Fault LED – rear (front of enclosure): Amber = Fault condition.
• Check Fault LED (back of enclosure on IOM face plate): Amber = Fault condition.
