By familiarising yourself with this manual and following the instructions, you ascertain your safety and ensure the reliable operation and long service life of the equipment.

    4(18) 3. Safety instructions for the log grab Please bear in mind that safety is the result of several factors. The loader-attachment combination is highly powerful, and improper or careless use may cause serious personal injury or property damage. Due to this, you should carefully familiarise yourself with the manuals of both the loader and the attachment before starting operation.

    The following safety procedures must be followed when installing hydraulic components. Contact your nearest Avant dealer or service point if you have any additional questions or if you need installation services. Before handling hydraulic components, make sure that the hydraulic system of the attachment and the loader are completely depressurized.

    A45866 Maximum operating 22,5 MPa (225 bar) pressure: Suitable AVANT loader: 216, 218, 220 300 – 700 *Contact service if installing other type of hose kit to 200 series equipment. Listed below are the markings and labels fastened to the attachment, which must be visible on the equipment.

    7(18) 6. Assembling the log grab Check that the hydraulic quick couplings in the separate installation kit are the same type as the loader quick couplings. Attach the pallet forks to the loader as shown in the manual of the pallet forks before attaching the log grab or assembling the hydraulic components.

    10(18) 1. Choose a level, well lit, and clean area for installation. Lower the attachment completely on the ground or a pallette, shut down the loader engine and release any residual hydraulic pressure. Also remember safety instructions from pages 4 and 5. 2.

The so called banjo fittings at the end of the hydraulic hoses are connected to the cylinder with hexagonal screw type fittings. Slide a seal ring on both sides of the banjo fitting and tighten to position shown in figures.

Tightening hydraulic fittings and testing the equipment Tightening hydraulic fittings Care must be taken when tightening hydraulic fittings, as overtightening of the fittings will break the fittings easily. Tighten straight fittings tightly using moderate force. Never tighten a fitting if the hydraulic system is pressurized.

    13(18) 6.4. Connecting and disconnecting the hydraulic couplings Never connect or disconnect quick couplings or other hydraulic components if the control lever of the auxiliary hydraulics control lever is locked on or while the system is pressurized. Connecting or disconnecting the hydraulic couplings while the system is pressurized may lead to unintended movements of the attachment or ejection of high- pressure fluid, which can cause serious injuries.

    14(18) Disconnecting the hydraulics: Before disconnecting the fittings, lower the attachment on solid and level surface, as shown on page 8. Shut down loader engine and move the auxiliary hydraulics control lever to its extreme positions to lower the grapple and to release residual pressure. When removing the attachment, always disconnect the hydraulic fittings before detaching the quick attach plate, to prevent hose damage and any oil spills.

    If there are signs of leaking, to check the component, hold up a piece of cardboard in the area where a leak is suspected. Finding any of these faults means that the hydraulic hose or component in question must be replaced. Spare parts are available from your nearest AVANT retailer or service point.
