  • Page 3 This saves blade costs when operating at uneven areas. Flail mower is the optimal cutting device for places where a lot of cutting power is needed and a rougher cut will do. Flail mower is at its best for mowing yard peripheries, meadows, roadsides and other areas, which are not accessible with ordinary lawn mowers or where the power of a lawn mower is not sufficient.
  • Page 4 Never go under a raised flail mower or loader boom. • Be sure not to tilt the flail mower too far up, since this will make it fall onto the boom as the floating mechanism allows the flail mower to move. Keep the flail mower at a low height.
  • Page 5 For more information, contact your AVANT dealer. Listed below are the markings and labels fastened to the flail mower, which must be visible on the equipment. Replace the warning labels, if they have become unclear or detached completely. New labels are available via your retailer or contact information provided on the cover page.
  • Page 6 5.1. Attaching the flail mower to the loader Attaching the attachment to the loader is quick and easy, but it must be done carefully. If the attachment is not locked to the loader, it may detach from the loader and cause hazardous situations. In the worst case, the attachment may slide onto the driver along a raised boom.
  • Page 7 Due to the movement enabled by the floating of the flail mower, excess tilting increases the risk of toppling over. We recommend that you lower the attachment onto the ground and secure the locking...
  • Page 8 The attachment is equipped with either standard quick couplings or the multiconnector system. If you want to change the type of the hydraulic couplings, contact your Avant dealer or service point for instructions or installation services. For 200-series loaders only conventional quick couplings are available.
  • Page 9 5.3. Storing the attachment When taking the flail mower off from the loader, lower it on even surface, where it cannot move by accident. Block the movements of an unattached attachment. It is recommended to clean the attachment thoroughly before storage. To avoid rust damage, do not store the attachment directly against the ground. Make sure that the blades or the roller are not in contact with the ground.
  • Page 10 5 meters from the work site. The flail mower is started by turning the auxiliary hydraulics control lever of the loader to its locked position. Depending on the loader model, the working hydraulics control device is a lever that is locked in the front or side position, or a pedal that is locked to lower position.
  • Page 11 6.3. Adjusting the cutting height The cutting height of the flail mower can be adjusted by changing the settings of the roller and the skids, highlighted in the adjacent figure. The mower need not be removed for performing the adjustments. The roller and he skids are to be set and the bolts are tightened in the desired position.
  • Page 12 7.1. Cleaning the mower Clean the flail mower as soon as possible after use, since this makes cleaning easier. You may use a pressure washer and mild detergent. Do not use strong solvents or spray directly at the hydraulic components or at the labels on the attachment either. Lubricate the lubrication points of the mower after washing.
  • Page 13 Checking and adjusting the drive belts The flail mower has two parallel drive belts, the clearance and condition of which must be checked regularly. Check the drive belts at least annually and at the beginning of the mowing season, and adjust when needed.
