The feed dog moves one step with every stitch. The length of this step is determined by the stitch length

For short stitch lengths, the steps are very small. For example, when sewing buttonholes and satin stitches.
The fabric is fed slowly under the presser foot, even when sewing at maximum speed.
Feed the fabric evenly; this results in a beautiful stitch formation.
Pulling or pushing the fabric will result in uneven stitches.
Holding back the fabric will result in uneven stitches.
