THE CASSETTE INTERFACE
The
BIT
"ASTER
KEYBOARD,
like alaost every

controlled
instrument,
is
equipped Nith a cassette
interface
that
allows all st~red data CPatches!l
to be saved onto a cassette,
and re-
loaded at a later time,
In this Nay
the storage
capacity
of the NASTER
KEYBOARD can be extended al•ost indefinitely1
you progra• neN
Patch
configurations, store
them
on cassettes,
and end up Nith
a ·Nhole
library of Patches that can be re-loaded anytime!
The

data only;
"SE" for sequencer data only;
or

to
the whole memory at once.
The
"TAPE
IN" and "TAPE
our•
sockets on the rear panel are
u1ed
to
connect
the BIT NASTER KEYBOARD to a cassette recorder.
We reco••end
the use
of a
si~ple
portable recorder,
that has
a
microphone <or
AUX)
input
and
a
headphone
output <PHONES OUTl,
HiFi recorders with
the
usual
line
levels l-10 dB) are as a rule not
suitable;
however
the
NASTER
KEYBOARD co~es
equipped
with
a
very
tolerant
cassette
interface, which can handle considerable level differences,
There
are now
various· 'Data Recorders' froR different nanufacturers on
the
~arket,
specially designed
for use with
Ho•e
Co•puters
(and
si~ilar
~achines,
like
the
BIT
HASTER
KEYBOARD>,
and
usually
reasonably priced. Please note that most such ,achines are designed to
use Noraal
tapes
(not t~e Chrome or Metal types); using the wrong tape
can cause rlata-transmission problems. Talking
of
cassettes: though the
cassette interface does not require
HiFi
quality (the frequency range
required is modest),
do use good quality,
reliable cassettes,
which
provide a certain guarantee against tape drop-outs.
You should
switch
off any noise suppression syste•s <Dolby,
db~ etc.,
etc.),
If
the recorder has a tone control Cnor•ally a
treble
cut),
this
should
be
fully open.
The
frequency range of the recorder should
be in no "ay altered.
Following these points will ensure trouble-free
operation "hen using the cassette
interface,
You
should
also re~e~ber that the HEMDRV PROTECT switch on the
back
panel
does not function in TAPE aode,
so loading data fro• ·cassette
will
always over-write present ~e•ory settings.
This also applies to
incoming HIDI DUMPS of bulk data {fro• another HIDJ unit,
a
co•puter
or
sequencer
etc.),
that are transmitted over the "lDI
IN
socket,
Caution is therefore advised Mith all these operations!
Exiting
Tape
Mode
resets the BIT NASTER KEYBOARD to
its
poNer
up
settings. The nTAPE• button can therefore be used
as
a
'soft'
reset at
any ti•e:
pressing
it
twice does the trick!
