Cot Features
6.1 Drop Frame
The drop frame has multiple uses:
•
It can be used as a lifting point for operators and
helpers standing at the head-end of the cot.
•
It can be lowered to shorten the length of the cot
for maneuvering where space is limited.
•
The safety bar attached to the drop frame secures
the cot inside the ambulance during the loading
and unloading process.
The drop frame adjusts to three positions (Figure 17):
•
Extended (locked): Keep the frame in this
position to load/unload the cot or when a tall
head-end operator lifts the cot.
•
Middle (locked): This position provides better
lifting leverage for a short head-end operator.
•
Folded (unlocked): Place the drop frame in this
position and raise the backrest to shorten the cot
when space is limited (such as in an elevator,
narrow hallway, etc.).
To raise or lower the drop frame, squeeze the release
bar (Figure 18) and raise or lower the drop frame to the
new position, then let go of the release bar.
Note: You do not need to squeeze the release bar when
lifting the drop frame from the folded to the middle
position.

6 - COT FEATURES
Extend the drop frame before folding the cot.
Folding the cot with the drop frame in a lowered
position can damage the drop frame if it strikes
the cot undercarriage, floor, or ground.
