FUNCTIONING
Checking the engine oil level and topping up
Soon after the machine has been stopped the engine is very hot and may cause burns; let the engine cool
down to 40-45°C before carrying out any check.
When carrying out an inspection or maintenance operation inside the engine hood, always open it
completely and make sure that it is kept open by the apposite rod.
REMARK
q If the machine is inclined, position it horizontally before carrying out the check.
q If the engine has just been stopped, before checking the engine oil level wait approximately 15 minutes, in
order to allow the engine to cool down.
1. Open the engine cover. For details, see paragraph
"ENGINE HOOD (3-32)"
2. Remove the dipstick (G) and wipe it with a cloth.
3. Insert the dipstick completely into the oil filler pipe, then
remove it and check the oil level.
4. Oil level must be between references H and L; if the oil
level is close to reference L, top up through the filler (F)
with the oil adapted to ambient temperature indicated in the
ta b l e o f l u b r i c a n t s ( s e e " F U E L , C O O L A N T A N D
LUBRICANTS (4-12)").
NOTICE
The engine is equipped with an oil vapour recovery and
recirculation device.
Be careful that the oil does not exceed the limit marked H
to prevent oil from entering the combustion chamber and
cause emissions of white smoke and high engine rpm.
5. If the oil level is above the H mark, drain the excess oil via
the drain plug (P), and check the level again.
6. If the oil level is correct, tighten the oil filler, then close the
engine hood.
