5.10 Valve Clearance

5.10.1 To examine and adjust the valve
clearance.
1. Remove the head cover bolts (A).
2. Remove the head cover (B) and the head cover
packing (C).

3. Pull the starter handle slowly or rotate the flywheel
by hand to set the piston near the top center of
the cylinder compression stroke (both valves fully
closed).

4. Insert a thickness gauge between the valve rocker
arm and valve stem to measure the valve clear-
ance.
5.10.2 Adjustment
1. Put the feeler gauge (D) between the rocker arm (E)
and the valve cap (F).
2. Loosen the adjusting screw locknut (G).
3. Turn the valve adjustment screw (H) to adjust the
valve clearance.
4. Hold the adjusting screw (H) while tightening the
valve adjusting screw locknut (G).
5. Check the clearance.

Valve clearance:
Intake:
0.15 ± 0.05 mm (0.006 ± 0.002 in).
Exhaust:
0.15 ± 0.05 mm (0.006 ± 0.002 in).
5.10.3 To assemble the head cover
1. Check the head cover packing (C) for damage or
deterioration.
2. Attach the packing (C) and cylinder head cover (A)
to the cylinder head.
3. Tighten the head cover bolt (C) securely.
